Artist Bio

Lisa Berman's artistic background includes a twenty year career in Interior Design after earning a B.A. and a B.F.A. from the University of Michigan School of Art. Nurturing her passion for ceramics throughout the years, she expanded her artistic repertoire to embrace working in metal sculpture. From 2005 until 2010, Lisa collaborated with the late Michigan bronze sculptor, Douglas Chick, on a variety of public art installations.  She derives inspiration for her art from her growing foundation in yoga and spiritual thought. Lisa finds it intriguing how a figurative manifestation in a medium such as bronze or clay can evoke passionate, emotional responses. These perceptions can potentially affect us in such positive ways, formulating our vision of reality much the same way that a beautiful sunset or grand vista can soothe our souls. This is a divine purpose of art. Lisa strives to connect people through this healing and spiritually uplifting nature of art that touches the universal emotions inherent in all of us.

Douglas Chick (1954-2010) was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelors degree in Sculpture  and Printmaking. After graduation Douglas spent twenty years in the Detroit area Art Advertising business, he then chose to return to his passion of creating sculpture. Douglas created public art sculptures for Libraries, Schools and Churches as well as commissions for private homes. One will find his work uplifting and spiritual. Douglas created his work with a variety of materials; clay, plaster and wax, which was then cast, usually in bronze.
